MahaDevi offers both fire-brewed Yagé and the rare Crudo, a suitable choice for beginners and those with a sensitive nervous system. Crudo cannot be transported. It does not exist outside Putumayo.

Crudo: The Sacred Cold-Brew Yagé
Crudo is a raw preparation of Yagé made without fire. The vine is harvested, scraped, and chopped by hand. This living medicine is consumed within a day or two of preparation, as it ferments quickly and cannot be stored or transported thus making it a rare experience exclusive to our yagé retreat.
For guests who are sensitive to plant medicine, or who are attending an ayahuasca retreat for the first time, Crudo offers a gentler starting point. The taste is mild, far closer to fresh vegetable juice than the heavy bitterness of cooked brew. It is easier on the stomach, gentler on digestion, and provides a remarkably clean, clear journey.
At MahaDevi you have a choice. We offer both traditionally cooked Yagé and Crudo, and we prepare both fresh for every retreat.
If this is your first time, or if you have a sensitive system, we recommend Crudo. The taste is mild, it is easier on the body, and most people find the quality of experience clean and clear. It is a gentler way in, without being any less real.
If you have worked with ayahuasca before and feel called to the cooked brew, that is available too. A facilitator and our ceremony leader can help you find the best medicine for you.

Taita Miguel Mavisoy and the MahaDevi Team
Our ceremonies are led by Taita Miguel Mavisoy of the Camsá tribe, whose lineage spans twelve unbroken generations. He received Yagé for the first time at six months old, guided by his parents, who are both respected healers in the Camsá lineage. Miguel became a Taita and started serving ayahuasca by age 14.
Taita Miguel has longstanding relationships with healers from the Inga, Kofán and Siona traditions, communities he grew up alongside in Putumayo.
The MahaDevi team includes Yasha, our founder, who holds the safety framework and logistics for every retreat, and Ania, our lead facilitator and head of integration, who provides the structured support you carry home.

- Is ayahuasca the same as Yagé?
- Yes. Ayahuasca and Yagé are the same plant medicine, a sacred brew made from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine combined with either Chacruna or Chagra leaves. In traditional Amazonian lineages, ayahuasca is widely called Yagé. That said, regional traditions shape the setting, ritual, and how the medicine is prepared and served. One notable distinction is that Yagé traditionally uses Chagra leaves rather than Chacruna. Chagra has a higher DMT content, which is why Yagé is often described as more visionary in nature.

- What is Crudo and who is it for?
- Crudo is a cold-brew preparation of Yagé made without fire, using fresh plants harvested and consumed within a day or two. The taste is mild and gentle, far closer to fresh water or green juice than the heavy bitterness of cooked brew. It is easier on digestion, making it ideal for sensitive individuals and first-time guests. Because Crudo ferments quickly and cannot be transported long distances, it remains an exclusive offering at our yagé retreat. MahaDevi provides both Crudo and traditionally cooked Yagé.

Every guest completes a comprehensive medical and psychiatric screening prior to acceptance, and ceremonies maintain a high 1:2 staff-to-participant ratio.
