What MahaDevi Is

MahaDevi is an ayahuasca retreat center based in Mocoa, Putumayo, Colombia, founded in 2024. It operates small-group retreats of 7 nights and 8 days, led by Taita Miguel Mavisoy, a healer from the Camsá indigenous tribe of Putumayo whose lineage spans twelve unbroken generations.

Retreats are held at a private property in Vereda El Monclar, near Mocoa, within the northern Amazon. The property includes access to the Mocoa River, walking trails, and a traditional ceremonial maloka. Hospital José María Hernández is 30 minutes from the retreat location.

The organization is registered as MahaDevi Retreats S.A.S. under Colombian law. Its stated mission is to improve the quality of ayahuasca retreat experiences for participants, for indigenous partner healers, and for the long-term sustainability of this work.

Who It Is Designed For

MahaDevi works with people who are seeking deep healing and an authentic experience rooted in living indigenous tradition. This includes entrepreneurs, professionals, and creatives who want structured personal growth alongside their healing work, but the retreat is not limited to that profile. Anyone who is genuinely called to this work and prepared to engage with it seriously is welcome.

Retreats are not designed around peak or recreational experiences. The framework prioritizes insight, practical integration, and long-term change. Participants are expected to engage with a 14–30 day preparation process and a 30-day post-retreat integration program.

All participants undergo comprehensive medical and psychiatric screening before acceptance. The medical considerations page covers the essential contraindications. Applicants who are not ready or not suited for the retreat are not accepted.

Group sizes are capped at 10–12 participants per retreat. For every two participants, one dedicated team member is present at the ceremony.

What Distinguishes MahaDevi

Several features are uncommon in the broader retreat landscape and directly traceable to the Putumayo location and the structure MahaDevi operates.

Fresh Medicine

The plants are grown and harvested in Putumayo by Taita Miguel's team. The medicine is prepared fresh for each retreat. Most retreats outside Colombia use imported paste that is reconstituted with water, a fundamentally different preparation.

Crudo Cold-Brew Yagé

MahaDevi offers both traditionally cooked Yagé and Crudo, a cold-brew preparation unique to Putumayo that cannot be transported. Crudo must be consumed fresh and does not exist at any retreat outside Colombia. An optional 4th ceremony using Crudo is available on select retreats.

Indigenous Lineage

Ceremonies are led by Taita Miguel of the 12-generation Camsá lineage. MahaDevi also cooperates with healers from other Putumayo traditions, including the Inga, Kofán, and Siona peoples.

Integration Framework

30 days of post-retreat integration is included as standard, not an optional add-on. Support includes one-on-one sessions, group integration calls, and ongoing community access. A clinical psychologist is available when needed.

Comprehensive Medical Screening

All participants complete medical and psychiatric screening before acceptance is confirmed. This is not a waiver, it is an active screening process. Participants with contraindications, recent SSRI use, or unmanaged mental health conditions are not accepted.

Full Legal Framework

Ayahuasca is fully legal in Colombia. MahaDevi operates under Colombian law with no exemptions required, no legal ambiguity, and no risk to participants. This contrasts directly with U.S.-based retreats, where participants face potential federal exposure under Schedule I classification.
